Challenge:

The Schlotzsky’s QSR chain (341 locations in 35 states) was in search of a compelling promotion for the Spring launch of their new "Clubz" sandwiches.

Solution:

To connect with its target male consumer who typically has a strong interest in both sports and video games, matrixx created an engaging sweepstakes and microsite featuring a baseball themed advergame. Players were challenged to advance from the Schlotzsky's Sandlot through 11 levels of increasing difficulty to reach the "Big League".

The flash-based application included extensive in-game branding and crave shots of the three new Big League Clubz sandwiches on the outfield walls and the animated Jumbotron.

Results:

The advergame was a breakout "hit" with male consumers, delivering more than 1,000 online plays per day and over 6,000 hours of total gameplay during the promotion.

Online blogs and game sites were abuzz about the game and consumers frequently challenged each other to beat the high score of the day. Big League Clubz sales exceeded all expectations and accounted for 5.7% of the revenue across their entire franchise system. The promotion also generated over 50,000 opt-in emails for future CRM.
